Initial Consultation Report FAQs

1. What are your counselors' qualifications?
iAdmissions Counselors have BOTH High School Guidance Counseling experience AND Admissions experience.

iAdmissions requires its counselors to possess both a Masters in College Counseling and High School Counseling Certification to ensure that all coursework diagnosis and recommendation is given in strict accordance with current Private College and University of California ("UC") Curriculum Standards. iAdmissions counselors undergo a rigorous qualification process to verify their credentials and experience, and utilize only High School and UC approved resources for course recommendation and research.

iAdmissions also requires its counselors to have at least 3 years of recent Private College or UC Admissions experience at a Top Private College or UC campus (UCLA, UC Berkeley, or UCSD). This requirement ensures that your iAdmissions counselor has read at least 1,000 applications and has received the most up-to-date admissions training from a Top College. In knowing that your iAdmissions counselor has reviewed the best applicants in the last 3 years, you can confidently integrate your counselor's Activity and Testing diagnosis and recommendations into your college-planning strategy.

2. How much feedback can I expect?
The iAdmissions Consultation Report includes diagnosis and personalized recommendations for Academic Coursework, Activities, and Testing, as well as a holistic analysis of your application profile based on your counselor's professional experience.

3. Can I just get help from my high school counselor?
Your high school counselor should be familiar with the application requirements, but only a counselor with Admissions experience can give you an accurate analysis of your potential for admission to the campus of your choice. The iAdmissions Counseling Staff is comprised of readers and admissions officers with years of Admissions training on how coursework, activities, and test scores factor into your holistic score. Our staff members are actively involved in the Top College and UC Admissions Community, and have access to the most up to date applicant data and admissions policies.

The iAdmissions Consultation Report is the best way to get a sense for your credentials relative to the current state-wide and national competition you will face during the admissions process. Since iAdmissions counselors have seen what it currently takes to gain admission to the competitive colleges, they will give you a much wider and more accurate perspective of your competitive standing.

4. Can I ask questions about my Assessment report?
Once you receive your report you can utilize your monthly subscription service to post questions. Within 48 hours of submitting a question you'll receive a detailed response from your iAdmissions counselor.

5. I'm only a Sophomore, is it too early to get an assessment?
Admissions Officers focus primarily on the courses and activities you engaged in during Sophomore and Junior year. Given how competitive admissions are, it's absolutely critical that students be strategic about their coursework and how they dedicate their time and energy outside of the classroom. With a finite amount of time and resources, students should maximize their profiles according to their individual goals and the current competitive climate at competitive colleges.

6. What are the security features of your service? How can I be sure my confidential information is safe?
Your online security is an absolute priority for iAdmissions. Your counselor is the only person authorized to access your account information. iAdmissions administrative personnel will not be allowed to access your account unless it is for an authorized investigation on customer service related issue. Under no circumstances will your account information be made available to any outside parties.

7. How do you make Course Recommendations?
The course recommendations you receive will be based on the coursework you still need to complete to meet the UC A-G or Top College basic Requirements. You will also receive course recommendations for additional courses available at your high school, at a local community college, and online that will enhance the competitiveness of your Academic Record. Having seen the the types of supplemental courses that Admissions officers esteem, your iAdmissions counselor will make personalized recommendations based on your desired campuses and majors. Your course recommendations will only be accredited and transferable courses approved by your high school and the UC system / Top Colleges.

Your counselor is a Certified High School Guidance Counselor who possesses extensive experience and professional training with coursework requirements and eligibility standards. iAdmissions requires its counselors to possess both a Masters in College Counseling and State High School Counseling Certification to ensure that all coursework diagnosis and recommendation is given in strict accordance with current CA and UC / Top College Curriculum Standards. iAdmissions counselors undergo a rigorous qualification process to verify their credentials and experience, and utilize only approved resources, such as the UC Doorways Program, for course recommendation and research.

8. How do you make Activity Recommendations?
The iAdmissions Activity recommendations are designed to help you maximize your participation in the most recognized and strategic extracurricular endeavors. With hundreds of clubs and organizaitons to sort through, find out which are the most relevant to your desired campuses and majors, and which are well-known within Admissions Committees. Make sure your activities demonstrate your potential for leadership and genuine dedication to improving your community, as well as reflect your unique academic goals and ability to contribute to the diversity of your desired campus.

Your iAdmissions counselor has read thousands of applications at competitive colleges and can decipher what Activities make an applicant the most compelling and competitive amongst the tens of thousands of other applicants throughout the nation. 9. How do you make Testing Recommendations?
Testing Recommendations are based on several factors, including PSAT and PLAN scores, score breakdowns from previous tests, the majors and campuses the student is interested in, grades in relevant courses, and statistics from the student's high school's performance on standardized tests. All testing recommendations are given ensure that a student's standardized test choices reflect her individual skill set, learning style, and collegiate goals.

10. Can I make comments about the Academic, Activities, and Testing Information I'm inputting?
There is room after each area of assessment for students to include their personal questions and comments about their information. The iAdmissions Counselors will address all of a students questions and comments in their final Assessment.

1. What's the difference between your counselors and an independent counselor?
iAdmissions Online Counseling- High School Planning Program gives you 24-hour, in-home access to Admissions Experts. You can confidently integrate your iAdmisisons Counselor's feedback into your college planning strategy, because all iAdmissions Counselors have recent Admissions experience at a top University AND Certified High School Counseling experience. Many Independent Counselors lack actual Admissions and Counseling experience. Only with iAdmissions Online Counseling can you be 100% certain that the guidance you're receiving is in strict accordance with current admissions and counseling standards.

2. Can I just use the internet to find answers to my questions?
With iAdmissions Online Counseling, you'll received personalized answers and recommendations you can trust. Unlike the generic answers you may find by using search engines and scouring blogs, the iAdmissions counseling answers will be personalized to your individual profile and goals.

3. Can I just get help from my high school counselor?
Your high school guidance office can help you, but the average Student to Counselor Ratio in CA is almost 1,000 to 1, and most high school counselors do not have Admissions decisions experience. In contrast, the iAdmissions Online Counseling Service:

4. Why do I have to enroll for a minimum of 3 months?
The iAdmissions counselors provide personalized answers designed to enhance your college application profile by getting to know you within your iAdmissions virtual classroom. The iAdmissions counselors need time to learn about your goals, your interests, your talents, and your background. A minimum 3 month commitment ensures that your counselor has time to assess and understand your needs, in order to provide the most insightful and personalized guidance.
 
5. I'm only a Freshman/Sophomore, do I need to start subscribing now?
Because college admissions become exponentially more competitive every year, the most successful candidates begin mapping their college preparation strategy during their Freshman year. Admissions officers examine Academics, Activities, and Tests from an applicant's entire high school career, so make sure you're starting and continuing on the path to success as soon as possible.
By subscribing for online counseling from iAdmissions in the early stages of high school, you'll ensure that you're making the most informed and strategic decisions every step of the way about your Academic choices, Activities choices, and Testing choices.
 
 
C. Questions about Monthly Question Limit and Type of Question Permitted
1. Why am I only allowed to ask 10 questions per month?
iAdmissions is in the process of introducing different tiers of subscription services to meet the diverse counseling needs of our customers, including online subscription counseling products that allow for more questions per month.
Because we're connecting students around the world to our staff of renowned professionals, we're initially offering a base subscription model for 10 questions per month. Our counselors have to consult professional resources and spend time researching personalized answers, so we are limiting their workload at the onset.
Your question submissions will be tracked by the number of "Posts" in your virtual classroom.
 
3. If I don't use all of my questions one month, do I get to save them for another month?
No, question submissions do not roll-over from month-to-month. All 10 question submissions must be utilized within the designated month.
 
4. If I ask a question and my counselor's answer is confusing, do I have to use up another one of my questions to get clarification?
No, if your question is not answered in a clear, straight-forward manner, you will not penalized for asking for clarification, provided your clarification question directly correlates to the counselor's response to your original question.

5. How long can each question be?
As each student has individual college planning needs, and iAdmissions understands that questions will vary in length. Your questions do NOT need to be "Yes" or "No" questions. Your questions should be structured such that one discrete question about one discrete issue is addressed. iAdmissions Counselors reserve the right to determine whether a question posed is considered as one question or multiple questions.
 
6. How long will each answer be?
iAdmissions believes that quality answers are clear, to point, and help students make the most strategic and informed decisions throughout the college-planning process. Regardless of an answer's length, its value derives from the expert, trustworthy knowledge of the iAdmissions counselors.
 
7.What is the scope of this service?
The High School Planning Subscription service is designed to address the following categories: Academics, Activities, Testing, General College Preparedness.
 
1. Academics: Are you meeting and exceeding the requirements with the right courses? How can I make my coursework more competitive?
  • Including: Course Planning, Graduation Requirements, UC/CSU Requirements, Credits Transfers, Subject Requirements, Community College and Online Courses

2. Activities: Are you maximizing your time outside of the classroom? How can I make my activities more competitive?
  • Including: Extracurricular, Volunteer, Work Experience, Awards

3. Testing: Are the tests you're taking helping or hurting your application profile?
  • Including: Test Planning, Test Requirements, Test Scores

4. General College Application Process: Are you prepared for the application process?

8. What am I not allowed to ask questions about?
This Subscription service is designed to address the following categories only: Academics, Activities, Testing, and College Preparedness.

The iAdmissions Online Counseling Subscription service DOES NOT cover questions about a student's chances of admission at a specific college, Campus Social Life, College Search, Financial Aid, or College Application Essays. iAdmissions provides separate services to address the more intensive areas of the college admissions process that require significant Counselor time and research, such as essay composition or specific college readiness assessments.

9. What if my question is not answered within 24 hours?
Any question that is not answered within 24 hours will not count towards you monthly question limit, and will be answered promptly.
